  • Dr Tom Thorvaldsen works as Researcher at FFI, where he has worked since 2006. He holds a PhD in applied mechanics from the University of Oslo, Norway. His main interest is materials technology for military applications, covering ballistic protection, composite materials and repairs, structural health monitoring, aging of materials, novel materials and advanced manufacturing technologies. One of his current activities is operationalization of advanced manufacturing in the Norwegian Defence Sector. Dr Thorvaldsen has also been involved in NATO and EDA, in different roles, for more than 15 years.
